American-born flautist Valarie King came to international attention in 1999 when she appeared on stage during the televised 41st Annual Grammy Awards as a member of the Grammy Awards Orchestra. Since then, Ms. King has performed with the orchestra on several occasions including the 50th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony accompanying Grammy winning pianists Herbie Hancock and Lang Lang’s stunning rendition of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody In Blue” and during the segment starring Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban. Ms. King’s expertise as a session musician has enabled her to delight audiences as a member of orchestras for the Emmy Awards, the American Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, the People’s Choice Awards, the Tonight Show and the Newsweek Awards.
In addition to her many televised appearances with awards show orchestras, Ms. King has performed on scores and soundtracks for television and motion pictures under such great composers and conductors as John Williams, James Horner, David Foster, Jerry Goldsmith, Marvin Hamlish, Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, Patrice Rushen, Johnny Mandel, Maurice Jarre, Michel Colombier, Claus Ogerman and Alan Broadbent, among others.
As a jazz and R&B flautist, Ms. King has won praise for her live performances with such great musicians as Hubert Laws, Ella Fitzgerald, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole, Luther Vandross, Elton John, Celine Dion, Shirley Horn, Nina Simon, Paul Anka, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Terence Blanchard, Justin Timberlake and so many more. Audiences worldwide are thrilled by her sensitive yet powerful technique and musical statements.
In 2002, Valarie King released her debut recording titled TODAY, TOMORROW AND FOREVER. In exchange for everything she offered her listeners, the critics raved about her wonderful musicality and exemplary command of her instruments as a bandleader and as an accompanist. In 2006, she released ONLY TIME WILL TELL, to more critical acclaim. Ms. King’s most recent success came in 2007 with the release of her latest CD titled ANYTIME, ANYPLACE.
